Marc T.G. Oosterlinck, aka "Moos" or "Moose"
OK, so you have reached this page. Wondering about the moose? Well, here is the explanation, in English,
because it is the only language in which the "moose" phenomenom can be explained...
It all started many years ago (1982), when I got to work for my second employer, the Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company
in Antwerp, Belgium. The division I worked for as a support engineer distributed an odd computer operating system
called UNIX from Bell Laboratories (for you nerds, yes I hacked the kernel of version 6.0) and the login name I was
given was according to the rules at that time: first letter of the christian name ("m") and the first three
letters of the family name ("oos") hence my login name became "moos", and my colleagues started to call me
by that name.
I also used it to log into something called Arpanet, later known as the early internet... My first e-mail address was moos@btmc.com.
From then on, every single company I ever worked for created a "moos" alias for me, so
people only had to know which company I joined in order to get in touch with me:
moos@ntds.be - Support Engineer at Northern Telecom Data Systems
moos@topdata.be - Manager UNIX & Networking Systems Division
moos@myriad.be - Managing Director & CEO at Myriad Management
moos@imx.be - Managing Director & CEO at IMX
moos@mbs.be - Manager Open Systems Division at MBS
moos@be.uu.net - Senior Executive at UUNet/MCI/WorldCom
moos@riverland.be - Managing Director at Riverland Next Generation
moos@emc.com - e-Business Development Director EMEA at EMC
moos@telerelay.com - Business Development Director at TeleRelay
moos@tiscali.be - Country Manager Tiscali Belgium
moos@lesvinsdugrandsud.be - Manager Les Vins du Grand Sud
Since many years, most of my friends and relatives call me "moos".
In English "moos" is pronounced "moose" as is the animal with which I can identify quite easily:
big, strong, reliable, honest, stubborn, to name but a few. Quite quickly, people started to
give me moose puppets and al sorts of moose related stuff. I have quite a nice collection by now...
So it should not come as a surprise that you can also reach me at my private address marc@moos.gent...
